For many eligible beneficiaries, Medicare covers medically necessary home health services when certain

Generally, these include:

• A physician determines that home health services are medically necessary.
• A physician establishes and periodically reviews a plan of care.
• The patient qualifies for skilled nursing care, physical therapy, speech-language pathology, or certain
  occupational therapy services.
• The patient is considered homebound under Medicare's eligibility criteria.

Depending on a patient's needs, home health services may include:

• Skilled nursing
• Physical therapy
• Occupational therapy
• Speech therapy
• Medical social services
• Home health aide services (when part of a qualifying plan of care)

Many people are surprised to learn what home health does not cover. Medicare generally does not pay for
around-the-clock personal caregiving, housekeeping, meal preparation, or long-term custodial care when
